James McGUCKIN (b. abt. 1814 in Co. Fermanagh, Ireland) married Rose BAILY
(also b. Ireland)in Quebec, Canada abt. 1834. They came to the Rochester
area sometime before 1842. Known children:

i. George b. 1835, Quebec married Ellen BURNE
ii. Hugh b. ? died young
iii. Edward b. ? married Sophia CHURCHILL
iv. Willie b. ? died working on railroad
v. Mary b. 1842 married Thomas WHITLEY
vi. Ellen Sophia b. 1844 married Henry SIMPSON
vii. Anna Jane b. 1846 married Michael CURRY
viii.John Lawrence b. 1849 never married

The McGUCKINs were Roman Catholic although eldest son George became a
Baptist at a young age.

Rose (Baily) McGUCKIN is said to have gone missing after picking up her
husband's pay and was supposedly found floating in the river (or canal) in
Rochester.

James is believed to have remarried and eventually returned to Ireland where
he died about 1882.
