Dear Carrie, Celene, Jane and anyone else interested in MARTIN:
Here is my MARTIN obit. Sorry it took me so long. George W. was my
greatgreat grandfather.
Major George W. MARTIN, a well-known former resident of Rochester, died at
his home in Washington, D.C. yesterday. The deceased was a native of
Maryland, and came to this city at an early age. He was for years employed
as a bookkeeper at D.R. BARTON's Edge Tool Manufactory, and at one time
candidate for City Treasurer. Although he lost the election, he was shortly
after called by the Hon. Freeman CLARKE to a situation in the office of the
Controller of the Currency at Washington. This position he has filled with
ability up to the time of his death. A mother, two daughters and two
sisters are left to mourn their loss. One of his daughters is Mrs.
WAGSTAFF, of Rochester, and the other, who is quite young, resides at
Washington. His mother, Mrs. Sarah MARTIN, resides at 46 Franklin Street,
Rochester. His sisters are Mrs. PARMELEE, of Geneva, and Mrs. W. Y.
ANDREWS, of this city. The late Mrs. DARROW of Rochester, was also a
sister. The deceased was the author of "Equations of Payments," and other
valuable works, and will be sadly missed.
Blessings,
Patricia Barth
