Hi all,
PLEASE keep in mind, that ALL an epidemic means is that there was a
DISPROPORTIONATE number of the population affected by a particular illness.
Just because an illness did not reach epidemic proportions, DOES NOT mean
that illness was not around to a lesser degree!!
It's important to keep in mind that in 1874, some FIFTY YEARS before the
discovery of penicillin, ANY infectious illness could easily cause the death
of several family members within a short period of time, particularly the
very young and the very old!!! Keep in mind, that the precious, but NOT
CHLORINATED, water people needed to keep hydrated during a fever, could
easily be the cause of a life threatening bout of diarrhea, which, back then,
was a COMMON cause of death in and of itself!!!
HAPPY HUNTING!
Joan
