The Western NY region in general had a major religious and spiritual
revival during that era. The religious fervor earned the region the
nickname of "The Burned-Over District". Both the Mormon religion
(Joseph Smith) and modern spiritualism (Fox Sisters) began in Wayne
County just east of Monroe Co. during that period.

My ancestor in 1840's mentioned the Brick Church bringing many citizens
of Rochester to Christ. It seemed to be in Rochester and had a large
revival going on in 1842/43.
