I suspect that my BATES may be related to Lyman BATES and the others. My gg-grandfather Oliver D. BATES was born in Rochester, NY September 4, 1827. Enlisted in Civil War from Des Moines, IA abt 1861. Went to McHenry Co., IL after the war and married. Then moved to NE Nebraska (Dakota Co.) by 1880 census and then to Oregon abt 1895 with wife, sons, and in-laws (BARNES). Anyone know of a link to Barnabas BATES (b. abt 1818 in NY)? Oliver and Barnabus both worked as stone masons. 1880 Nebraska Census shows Barnabus (father born VT; mother born ME) also in Dakota Co. and L. BATES, b. abt 1833 in VT (parents born in VT), children Ida, Eda, Nellie, Eva, George, and Walter.
