There was a place in Mt. Hope Cemetery that was called potter's field where they buried poor people back in the 1900's. It is in Rochester, NY and on Elmwood Avenue and Mt. Hope Avenue. I was there years ago and you could find bones of humans on the ground where they would dig graves up and since the coffins were just wood and wood vaults of the cheapest kind they rotted away after some years and just the bones were left. I don't know if it is used as such today. We go to Mt. hope all the time since my family is buried there but havent seen that part of the cemetery in quite a while. The telephone number of the office there is 585-428-7999.
