Dear Listers,
I am still searching for GUNTHERs in Rochester.
Does anyone have access to Census Reports for 1860 or 1870? I would
interested to know of any families with names like GUNTHER - including
GINDER, GINTER, GINTHER and GUENTHER.
Of interest is Frederick C. GUNTHER (etc). He was born in Switzerland in
1852, married in Missouri in 1874 and may have been resident in Rochester in
1888-1895, but possibly lived in Rochester before 1880.
But of particular interest is one extended family who have been found under
the various names above. I am reasonbly sure they are all related,
especially because of the similarity of children's names. These families
are:
John (b. c. 1817, Bavaria) and Elizabeth GINDER (b.c. 1821, Hesse Darmstadt)
with children - Frederick (1854), Barbara (1865) and Libbie (1869).
Henry (b. 1819, Bavaria) and Catherine GEINTER (b. 1832, France) with
children - Frederick (b. ?), George (b.c. 1865) and Charles (b. 1872).
Frederick (b.c. 1834 Bavaria) and Catherine GEINTER (b. 1844, Hesse
Darmstadt) with children - Emma (b. 1866 Canada) and Anna (b. 1867 Canada).
Apart from Emma and Anna all children were born in New York State.
I have material from the 1880 Census but nothing from previous Census
Reports and would like to find out if they were resident in Rochester.
There may have been more of this extended family, but these are the only
ones that I seem to be related in 1880. John GINDER died before 1895 while
the rest died in the 20th century.
Any help gratefully accepted.
Best wishes,
Charles
