I'm sorry that I was wrong on my original posting. The article in the D&C
said that the most asked research question is "Did my great grandfather work
for Kodak?" It neglected to mention that they don't have the answer. I
didn't contact the U of R myself, the only relative of mine who has worked
for Kodak was my brother and I can ask him about it.

I thought I'd share this information with list members.

Dear Carol,
I am sorry to report that the article in the D&C was a little
misleading. We have received many thousands of documents and photographs
from the Eastman Kodak Company, but alas, no individual personnel files or
employment records of individuals. The only thing we have are the names of
the "pioneer" employees and lists of names from the late 19th century of
people who worked at the Camera Works. None of it is indexed by employee
name. The closest we would have would be articles in "house organs" like
the Kodakery and this has not yet been indexed.
I wish I could be of further help and I wish you the best of luck with
your research.

Ms. Martin,

In reference to the article below circulated in the NYMONROE mailing list
for genealogists I was quite excited to see this news about Eastman Kodak's
business records since I have had no luck in the past getting information
from Kodak about my grandfather, a longtime employee.

The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle today (1 May 2004) has a story about
Eastman Kodak transferring its business archives, including employmen
records, to the University of Rochester. The archives consist of millions of
pages. The number of people who have worked for the company in the Rochester
area since its founding in 1880 must be well into six digits so the records
could be of interest to many genealogists. The contact is listed as Nancy
Martin at (585) 275-9337 or .

Can you please tell me how to access this information when I'm in Rochester
this summer. Is anyof the information indexed and if so, will it be
available on the UofR's website?
