In Rochester Times Union of Rochester, NY dated June 6, 1944
Dr. Clifford C. Young, 56, deputy state commissioner of health for Michigan, died last night (June 5, 1944) in Lansing, Mich., friends here were informed today.
Dr. Young, a native of Kansas, came to Rochester as a young man and attended East High School under the late Albert H. Wilcox. He gained local fame as a high and broad jumper on a first-rate East High track team which included Walker S. Lee, now city superintendent of buildings.
He was the nephew of Mrs. Edward A. Akerly of Audubon Street.
After he was graduated from East High School, Dr. Young studied at Lehigh University, Kansas University and the University of Michigan. He was held the Michigan health post the last 20 years and has achieved wide recognition for his work.
Among his achievements was establishment of the first statewide blood bank for the free distribution of blood to all persons needing it.
Surviving is Dr. Young's wife Dr. Minna Crooks Young, who is widely know in scientific groups.
