Posting marriages for 1985 through 1987 would be a violation of state
regulations, which require keeping them private for 50 years. I suspect
that they may actually be data entry errors with the incorrect date. I
looked at the 1986 list and it seemed to me that there was an unusual number
of given names that are no longer common. I looked up about a dozen of the
more unusual names in the current Rochester area phone book and didn't find
any of them.

Subject: Strange behavior of Rochester marriage records

The Rochester marriage records (1876-1932) seems to have some strange
quirks. If you search for "Smith" as a last name, with no other fields
filled in, you will see marriages from 1872-1932, with some in 1986 and
1987.

Now search on any year between 1933 and 1939, with no other fields
filled in, and you will find marriages listed. Several each year
involve a "Smith," but they are not found by the "Smith" last name
search. (I tried a couple of other surnames, and they were found for
the 1933-39 years, but not "Smith")

It appears that there are marriage records for 1985 (3) through 1987,
but none between 1940 and 1984.
