Subject: Early Rochester (Murder?) Investigation
Date: Sun, 4 Dec 2005 16:52:00 EST
Fellow List Members,
I am being asked by an out of the country genealogist to provide additional
detail about a drowning that occurred in the Erie Canal in Rochester in the
year 1857.
A very short article in the Rochester Daily Democrat mentions this drowning
as being accidental, but my correspondent claims that family lore has it that
the man was murdered and that his family requested an inquest and a
post-mortem examination, the results of which led to the (reported) accidental
verdict.
My question: Has anyone had any success in locating written documentation
for these types of official procedures this early in Rochester history?
Please answer to the List, as I'm sure others would be interested! I've done
lots of Rochester/Monroe County research, but this is a new one for me!
Thanks,
Bob Wambach
