ACCIDENT DAMAGES POWER SUBSTATION

Light Company Installs Portable Equipment

Electric current for street car service in the Genesee and West avenue
section of the city was provided last night through a portable current
transformer, following an accident Saturday night, which damaged a rotary transformer in
the Litchfield street substation of the Rochester Gas and Electric
Corporation.
The rotary transformer failed late Saturday night, and feeder wires
were tied to power lines from other parts of the city to make it possible to
continue service Sunday. The transformer is used to change alternating current
provided by the corporation's power plants to direct current used by the
street railway company.
Yesterday a portable transformer owned by the railway company was
placed at the end of the Genesee street car line, near Genesee Valley Park, to
transform current until the damaged unit can be repaired. The portable unit is
exactly like the damaged one, except it is mounted on a street car truck. It
will take nearly two weeks to repair the damaged unit, according to Thomas H.
YAWGER, superintendent of the electric department of the electric corporation.
