Hello
My gg grandparents were married in 1850, possibly November, I believe in Rochester. They were Charles BEAMISH and Mary DUKELOW. About the same time Charles BEAMISH's sister Mary BEAMISH married Charles DUKELOW, not a brother of Mary DUKELOW. Confused yet?
We're unsure of the place and date of marriage and we're also trying to find the name of Mary DUKELOW's father. Hopefully it would be on her marriage record. Her mother, Mary, was an 83 year old widow, living in Rochester with her son Thomas on the 1880 census. (Thomas was a Rochester police detective for many years and died there in 1901. His funeral announcement tells us that the funeral was conducted by the minister of St. Mark's episcopal church, but a copy I have of his obituary says he was a lifelong member of St. Luke's episcopal church.)
It is possible that Mary DUKELOW's father was James, from what a relative thought. They came to Rochester from Balydehob, County Cork, Ireland about 1845. Their children were the aforementioned Mary and Thomas as well as Peter, and possibly more. A Frances DUKELOW married a HORNIBROOK. She was a relative somehow.
I'd appreciate any information about this family as well as pointers as to how to go forward. I can't get to Rochester to research myself but if there are any places on the internet I should be looking at I'll do so. Thanks for the news items site. I learned more about Thomas DUKELOW.
Regards,
Mary Lang
