I have sometimes come across images that are difficult to read on screen and others that do not print well. To resolve this problem I save the image to my hard drive and then I bring it into my photo editing program and adjust the highlights, contrast, etc. After I am done I have a document that I can read well and also print well.

If you don't have photo editing software, there are many you can download for free.

I am having a difficult time reading an image on ancestry.
Could the image be better on Heritage Quest, or on the original microfilm?
Has anyone had experience finding images better in one place over another?
