Generally you are not likely to find a birth or death record before 1880 in
NY State. However try to find out when this man died and try to get a death
cert. If he died in Nassau Co.(Queens at the time), the county archives in
Hempstead should have it(registrar office). Also try the archives in Albany
(you have to visit). I do not believe they do any more mail in requests.

P.S.: You may also want to try the Rockville Cem. in Lynbrook, I think
they have some Hempsteads in there.
