Saw your post on Smithville South. Found it most interesting! While I
know of no links to the BALDWIN line, there was such a sparce population
in Smithville South prior to 1900, felt there was a good chance our paths
might cross.

My great grand parents were John Henry LINDSTEDT (b. 1853 - d.1939) &
Levina "Lillie" SHORT(b.1854 - d. 1947). They moved to Smithville South
in 1904 from Brooklyn. Levina was born in Brooklyn and the daughter of
Samuel SHORT. John came from Baden in about 1868-69, we know nothing of
his family
their children were
1. Anne Mae (b. 1875 - d. 1936) married John ALLEN (2nd marriage William
G. WEISS)
children:
1 John Rositer ALLEN (b.1900 d.1994) married Alice WOOD (b.1905 -
d.1968)
2 Edith Ann ALLEN (b. 1905 - d.1980) married Peter E. JOHNSON
(b.1906 - d.1993)

2. Ethel Mae (b.1885 -d. 1987) married William SCHWEGLER (2nd mar. Henry
LANG)
children:
1 Mildred May SCHWEGLER (b.1903 - d.1963) mar. Edward W. JEREMIAH
2 Horace D. SCHWEGLER (b.1906 d. 1992) mar. Irene F. CONLON

3. Thomas Russel (b.1886 -d.1973) mar. Mary BEDERMAN
children:
1 Ruth LINDSTEDT (b.1902 - d.1973) mar Lief LORENTZEN

4. Walter Harry (b.1889 - d. 1976) married Loretta Irene HILL (b.1891 -d.
1970)
children:
1 John Hill LINDSTEDT (b. 1913 - ) mar. Gertrude Marie WAGNER
2 David Adelvin LINDSTEDT (b. 1914 - d. 1986) mar. Mary Ethel RYAN
(b1916 d1979)

5. Herman Raymond (b. 1892 - d1968) mar. May Mee KIRCHNER (.1892-d.1953)
children:
1 Elwood Raymond (b.1913-d1980) mar. Gladys M. DONALDSON (b.1911
2 Marion (b. 1917 ) married Reino Ray ROTH

My great grandmothers brother Thomas R. SHORT & wife Matilda (think
MARTIN) moved to Smithville South in about 1906. They had a very lare
family 8 or 9 children and lived on Little Neck Road. The best known of
their children was "Sam" SHORT. Sam served many years as a member of the
Mepham High School board and lived well into his 90s. The SHORT &
LINDSTEDT families were house painters with one of Tom's sons owning a
paint store in Bellmore for several years.

The LINDSTEDT family live on LINDSTEDT (now spelled LINDSTEAD) Lane on
the north side of Columbus Ave. Gladys (DONALDSON) LINDSTEDT still lives
there.

The LINDSTEDTs married into the JOHNSON & WOOD families both of which
resided in Smithville South for several years prior to 1890. The Charles
WOOD family owned a small family grocery store on New Bridge Road for
several generations. Pete JOHNSON was the son of Charlie JOHNSON.
Charlie built the school in North Bellmore and the JOHNSON's built a
large portion of the houses in the area.
