The reason that SS said that the nursing home may have been in East Atlantic
Beach or Lido Beach is because the "Long Beach, NY 11561" postal zone is
LARGER than the City of Long Beach.
The "Long Beach, NY" postal zone serves an area of 2,571 acres, while the
City of Long Beach is 1,590 acres. The result is that one of every three
places with a "Long Beach, NY" mailing address is NOT in the City of Long
The Island of Long Beach (it's on the extreme southwestern part of Nassau
County) includes the following communities (from west to east): the Village
of Atlantic Beach, the Hamlet of East Atlantic Beach, the City of Long
Beach, the Hamlet of Lido Beach and the Hamlet of Point Lookout.
The Village of Atantic Beach and the Hamlets of East Atlantic Beach, Lido
Beach and Point Lookout are all in the Town of Hempstead.
Do you know the name of the Nursing Home (it may be on the Death Certificate)
and the Nursing Home may have in their files names of other relatives.
If the Nursing Home is in the City of Long Beach, then contact the city
clerk for the Death Certificate. If the Nursing Home is in that part of
the "Long Beach, NY" postal zone that is in either the Hamlet of East Atlantic
Beach or the Hamlet of Lido Beach, then contact the Town Clerk for the
Town of Hempstad for the Death Certicate information.
