Interesting! I may have been bow-wowing up the wrong family tree. I
suppose I should have suspected something like that, since Valentine
Peters's sibbs and kids married SMITHs, and not all of them would go to
Smithtown in search of SMITH spouses. I shoulda looked at the map.

I'm new to this list, since hitherto most of my efforts have been in Rye,
NY; Middlesex Co, CT; Conn River Valley; and New Brunswick, CAN.

What does "Rock" mean in this context? And does that Hempstead Smith family
have a genealogy?

| then 20 years. Because you are dealing with Hewletts, Bedells, Valentines
| and Smiths, it is most probable that your Ruth is a "Rock" Smith from
| Hempstead, not a "Bull" smith from Smithtown. Her marriage is not
recorded
| in the "Smith Family of Smithtown" genealogy.
