I just looked over the series of postings regarding your family and believe our Henry Smiths are one and the same. I am related to Henry through his son Bergen Smith. Henry must have married twice, because Bergen's mother was a Phoebe Ann Raynor. Bergen was born in 1860. Do you have any idea when Henry's first wife, Jane Ryerson died? Anyway, I believe they are related for several reasons. First, in the 1860 Federal census, Henry is listed along with a son John and a daughter Jospehine, but no wife. Perhaps Jane Ryerson had already died by then. Second, in the 1892 New York State Census, Henry is listed living with an Ellen Smith (49 years old) and her children. I know she married a James Smith and had several children, but her first husband was, indeed, a Birdsall.
I have a significant amount of information (will, deeds, etc.)regarding Henry's father Samuel (and more info about Henry and his siblings), although I have been unable to find out who Samuel's parents are yet. I'll be more than happy to send you what I have. Send me an e-mail.
Frank
