Hi all!

Does anyone have any experience in an "enquest pending" listed on a death certificate? I finally got my gggrandfather's, Michael McDonald, 1897 NYC death certificate the other day and that's what is listed under "how he came to death." Apparently he had a simple fracture of something (can't make out what it was) and at the base of the skull w/ brain lacerations. Wowie ... doesn't sound good! He was a porter at the time

Is there any records that I could check to verify this further? ie: paper, coroner's report, etc. I really appreciate the imput!
