I've just been told that a relative who is key to my research was hospitalized on Riker's Island for tuberculosis or black plague (?) when it was still a hospital for communicable diseases. It would have been between about 1895 and 1912.

Is this a lead I can follow? I thought Riker's Island was a prison. Was it ever a hospital?
