Karen, do you know the years that Phillip Fetzer had his bakery at 114 Cannon
St. in New York? The reason i ask is that my g grandfather and gg
grandfather, from at least 1867, had a brass foundry at 111 Cannon St. They
were there until 1871, when they had an ad in the city directory, and at
that time they were at 112, 114, and 116 Cannon. Then, by 1875, they were at
106 Cannon St. (Expanded too fast??) My gg grandfather died in 1890, and my
g grandfather kept the business going for years.

I noticed that your Phillip moved to Leonard St...that street is in what
used to be (a long time ago), Lispenard Meadows. It belonged to one of our
Huguenot ancestors, and by now, I think all that's left is Leonard St. and
one other street that's named for a member of the Lispenard family, but I
don't remember right now what it is. That land is all down where Wall Street
is now (well, it was there then, too, but it was a Wall!)
A lot of what's now the Financial District was once part of the Meadows,
including the land that Trinity Church is built on (the family donated part
of the land, and several of them are buried there).

I wonder if Phillip (I assume he was an ancestor of yours?) and my gg & g
g'fathers knew each other??

I just thought you might be interested in this little sidebar...
