I would venture to guess that these records are located in
The City Hall Library which is Room112 at 31 Chambers St.

The NYC Municipal Archives, 31 Chambers Street, Room 103, New York, NY
10007, tel: 212-639-9675, has a microfilm collection called "The City
Record." It begins in 1883 and continues well into the 20th century,
although there are missing years. The City Record contains civil
servant records from various New York City agencies such as the Police
Department, Fire Department and many others. Names, home addresses,
position, salary are given. I don't know if the school system is part
of this collection, but it certainly is worth contacting the Municipal
Archives to find out. If they don't have the information they may be
able to direct you to those who do.
