Thanks to all who took the time to respond with recommendations and
advice, however I am a little different maybe than most who submit
requests or ask for assistance. I like those with experience, time and
willing to make a little extra cash, who truly enjoy researching and
helping others.
It is also hard to post information for you never know what someone will
respond asking in addition to. I try to stick to the bare facts and I
find in most cases volunteers go above and beyond a request, which is
great. Their desire to help, have them thinking of all the
possibilities and they are curious if you have tried this or that,
possibly thinking that person requesting, is new to research.
As I am a volunteer myself, I know the frustration when something very
important may have been left out/overlooked and needs to be asked.
Especially if you as a volunteer do not know that person's experience or
what information they have on hand. Plus it is hard sometimes to make
heads or tails, for the person requesting knows their lineage, where you
are new to their family.
The following I hope can be taken as constructive criticism and is not
meant to belittle anyone or pointed at any individual .... I feel bad
when some volunteers begin looking for every surname related, date,
place, document and begins sending this information when it has nothing
to do with the initial request. I recommend if it is your intent to
help that person to ask first. I realize seasoned volunteers do.
Granted, since I have been researching since 1993, I do not know
everything and especially when my research takes me to cities, counties
and states I have not yet ventured, it is nice to find a volunteer(s)
that is/are knowledgeable and provides assistance.
I respect volunteers and on my genealogy web pages I have written
"Volunteers are our most precious research tool, show your appreciation
"Pay It Forward"
Thanks for being there, sharing your time, knowledge and experience......Doc
