No one is permitted to do hands on research with records of the Catholic Church except those employed by the Church.
Some parishes such as St. Anthonys require you to pay a fee upfront for them to look. Other parishes charge a few per year they have to search.
You will need to supply the church office with an approximate year.
The Churches do not keep Burial Records.
Over the past twenty years I have spent a lot of money looking for church records and have never found any in New York City.
In defense of the Church they do not have enough employees to do searches.
