Stone Street was formerly called Brouwer Street........(Brewer Street)
........because the Van Cortland Brewery was located there...........

The Dutch paved it with cobblestones.....because the neighbors of the brewery
complained of the dust kicked up by the horse drawn brewery wagons, dirtied
their curtains. Mrs Van Cortland demanded the city pave the street.

It may have had a name change when the British came to NY. I didn't see any
information or records stating this
