My question is how popular would it have been to give out photos of your newborn -to year old- child to persons you knew? Not that you were related to. My grandmother owned a number of photos of infants - they could have been her sibling- and of course no one wanted to ruin the photo by writing on them who they were. I am wondering if these really could have been her siblings that died young or if they were just neighbors kids. My g-grandfather was a butcher living in a tenement so it's not like they would have lots of extra money but some of these could have been taken to send to the grandparents back in Germany. Any ideas?
