My GG-Grandfather, John Chain worked as a tailor in New York from approximately 1824 to 1838. If anyone with access to any directory, census etc. for this period in New York could do a look up for me it would be greatly appreciated. He was orphaned as a child in New Orleans and apprenticed to a tailor. At the end of his apprenticeship he moved to New York. He may have lived or worked with relatives in New York.
