Washington Street is shown on an 1864 map of Manhattan as being near the Battery, parallel to the west coast of the island, in the southern part of Manhattan. A map from the 1970s shown it in the same location.
In the 1890 Police Census, it would be in the 1st Assembly District. I believe this census was conducted to challenge the data from the federal census of that year. I saw the census in 1974 at 23 Park Row in Manhattan.
I sketched some maps showing the limits (only) of the 1st-18th A.D.s which comprise lower Manhattan south of 40th Street. These begin on page 3145 of my genealogical notebooks. I also have a few words to describe some of the remaining A.D.s in upper Manhattan and the Bronx.
While the data in this census is disappointing, it would show the names and ages of children living with the head of the household,
Reg Niles
