You could try Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church, 25 Mott Street, NY, NY, 10013 (212) 962-5265. I don't know if it was primarily Italian, but it is the closest church I could find to your address.

Try also the bklyn-genealogy-info.com website. Their "Worship" section is very helpful, even for non-Brooklyn based churches. Use Mapquest to pinpoint the location of the church relative to your address and then google it to see if it still exists. I looked at the 1881 church listing on the site and then googled the name for any current day hits - same name, same address!

By the way, you can skip the churches on numbered streets; they are likely too far away to be useful to you.
