The reasons for no death certificate being found are many.
Your great grandfather may have died elsewhere, as in New Jersey. The name
may be spelled differently. I can tell you that I have several letters from NYC
telling me there was no DC for my great grandfather. Yet when I looked his
name up in the FHC film files there was a copy of the actual one from the
Municipal Archives of NYC.
I understand Calvary has required a death certificate before interment since
the early 1900s. You may start with them. They more than likely have a copy.
