Hi Mary,
I read your post. If you go to www.familysearhc.org and type into a "place search" New York" part of "New York", then look under vital records, it reads that the Mormons have filmed the death certificates for 1903.
You can send to them for a certificate in Salt Lake City on theor application. You have to provide the cetificate number and county (Manhattan?) and the film number that the certificate would be on. I can help you if you don't find it on their www.
The charge used to be $2 with a minimum of $8 per application or, say 4 certicates or whatever it might be you want. This is a much cheaper way to go. So, if you needed other items, even if their cost increased, it's well worth it.
The Muni Archives used to charge $5 if you were there but it's at least double that through the mail.
Salt Lake responds rather quickly.
Jo
