New York City has a death certificate on file for a Howard Carney,29 yrs, DOD 4-18-1944, YOB 1914-1915, #9960 Manhattan. You can order a copy by going to http://www.nyc.gov/html/records/html/about/archives.shtml (sorry, don't know how to do this as a usable link). Click on "Vital Records" at the top and you will get instructions and fees to order the certificate. It can be done on line and it's my understanding that you should have the certificate in about 2 weeks. Keep in mind, there is no quarantee that this certificate is your Howard, although it certainly looks that way. If cost is a concern, post another message asking for a certificate lookup so that you know you have the right guy.
