A brief history of Manhattan and also the development of charitable instutions in the city. Instutions to benfit the sick, orphans, the aged, women, veterans, deaf, blind and much more.

This is a 600 page book that gives some insight into helping people in need -- published in 1871 by J.F. Richmond. Many ilustrations.

The book may be helpful if you are seeking info about an institution that no longer exists.
