My Husband's family is descended from this Goodbread family, of the Mohawk Valley, NY, in which Solomon was one. In the 1840 Census to which you refer, I believe the situation is that Solomon was just newly married, no children yet. His first wife was Anna Southwick. I have no information on her except that she died rather young and he then remarried to Eliza Taylor Tubbs.
It is a rather foggy situation relating the children of Solomon, and what happened to his first wife, etc. He is buried in the Wilcox cemetery in Little Falls, NY and I have been told some children are there also. We went there in 2004, the black flies about ate us up, so we didn't stay too long. Got a picture of Solomons g.s., lying flat on the ground and in very poor shape as is the whole cemetery. I have some info, about the Tubbs, if anyone cares to ask.
