My dad was born and raised on W. 49th Street (born 1922), and I worked for a number of years at the firehouse on 8th Avenue and W. 49th Street, so we both know the neighborhood well. OBriens must have been before my time there, but I did become familiar with an Irish bar or two myself. A colorful neighborhood it was, with a great history to it. I'm gone from their for 13 years now, and the changes there are dramatic. Dad's got some great stories about the old Garden too.
