Message Board Post:

I am working on genealogy of my family the names include: Hein/Heine/Dewar/Dayton/Berger/Weigelt. Mostly from NY.

Heine:

Frederick Heine from Germany, b. approx. 1864. Had 3-4 children from a first marriage. Listed in the 1900 census as Geo (b. 1889), Mary (b. 1891), and Lizzie (b. 1893). Around 1896 he married Elizabeth Fuchs (also from Germany) and had 2 children: Florence (1898)and John (b. 1900). All children were born in NY. Both Elizabeth and Frederick indicate they arrived to the US in 1881. Frederick became a naturalized citizen in 1886, his papers do not indicate a port of entry. In 1900 they lived in Suffolk County, L.I.
I can not find them in the 1910 census.

Hein:

John (Fredercik)Heine, at times listed himself as Hein and other times as Heine. His birth certificate indicates he was born in Suffolk County, L.I. He is listed in 1920 census as a "private" in WWI and living in Richmond County, NY. On his draft application, his mother is listed as Elizabeth Berger in the Bronx. This means that Elizabeth Fuchs Heine remarried. John married Bertha Eliza Dewar in 1928 in Hempstead, L.I. They had at least 2 children that I know, possibly 3: Bertha Elizabeth (b. 1930) and Richard Frederick (b. 1933(. I believe there was a 3rd child born after that. Bertha Eliza and John Frederick divorced in 1953 in FL. Bertha Eliza is listed as living in Jacksonville Beach, FL.
John Frederick died in 1971 in Franklin Square and is buried in the Long Island National Cemetery.
His daughter, Bertha Elzabeth, who was estranged, died in NJ in 1997. Richard, his son, died in 1978 and is buried in the Long Island National Cemetery. He is also listed as a casuality of the Korean War.

Berger: Elizabeth Heine (nee Fuchs) appears in the 1920 census in the Bronx, married to John P Berger. John is also from Germany. John had several children from a previous marriage and John and Elizabeth indicate they had a son Paul (I believe it is John Paul) b. approx. 1911.

Dewar: Annie Eliza (nee Dayton) b, 1871 in SeaCliff, L.I. married John Benjamin Dewar b. 1868. Some records indicate he was born in California, others indicate Vermont. They had a total of 4 children, one died somewhere before 1908. Madge, Margaret (sometimes listed as Ann, most likely Ann MArgaret) b. approx. 1894 in NYC married George W. ALbertson also of NYC in 1916. John E. Dewar, b. 1898 in NYC. I have not found anything about him. Bertha Eliza b. in the Bronx in 1908.
Annie Eliza and John Benjamin lived in Glen Cove in the 1920's and 30's. She died in 1937 and he in 1933 in New Hyde Park. They are buried in the East Hillside Cemetery in Greenvale, L.I. Next to some of the Hortons and Conklins, who were married to some of the Daytons.

Dayton: Annie Eliza, oldest daughter of Robert Henry Dayton and Cecilia Hoteling. They had about 8 children. Robert Henry is the son of Robert W. Dayton buried with several of the other Daytons in the cemetery in Port Jefferson, NY. These Daytons are tied to Ralph Dayton, one of the earliest settlers of SOuthHampton.

At present I am tryting to work one the Hein/Heine and Berger names, but I would be happy to share any info with those interested. If any minor piece of this info sounds familiar, please contact. me.

Liz
