I don't know if you have this, but Thomas Surridge became a naturalized American citizen on 15 Oct 1868 in Supreme Court, New York County. His home address was 528 W. 29 Street (between 10th and 11th Avenues). His occupation, age or dob was not given. His witness was Peter Burke, of 2 Fourth Ave. Thomas was a subject of the Queen of Great Britain and Ireland. You can obtain a copy of his petition for naturalization from either the National Archives at 201 Varick Street in Manhattan or the New York County Clerk, Division of Old Records at 31 Chambers Street, Room 703. The citation for the record in Supreme Court is Bundle 26, Record Number 352.

Also, there was a James Surridge in the 1890 NYC Directory who was a waiter. He lived at 513 Sixth Avenue ( near W. 13 Street). The directory listed only one other Surridge: John H., who lived at 2659 Third Avenue, Bronx, NY (between E. 139 St. and E. 140 St).
