Michigan must have some of the most creative and interesting wildlife.
We currently live next to a lake with four cats (three over 12 and one
"youngster" of two). It's always wise to check what you're stepping on
in the morning - you never know what furry thing has come through the
cat door - some voluntarily, some carried; some alive and some not.
We also have a large sliding door on the second level and in the summer
see the white underbellies of tree toads and frogs as they stick to its
surface and act as ecologically safe mosquito deterrents. They also
sometimes slip though the crack by the screen door and end up plastered
to the TV screen.
After several muggy hot Michigan days when the bugs have driven me crazy
and their bites are itching and keeping me awake during the night, I
often wonder what our ancestors did to keep them away. Does anyone know
what they used for "Off" or "Cutters", or did they just grin (or
grimace) and suffer?
