Dear Folks,

This is late at night; however, I haven't been able to get a handle on just how late it is. I have only one clock that I've set to the current Standard Time. To add to that, last night when I went to bed I didn't turn my clock back and when I got up this morning I realized that I had gotten up an hour early! But by that time I was drinking my cup of tea and it didn't make sense for me to go back to bed.

The whole day has been out of whack for me. Do I eat my lunch at 12:00 according to my watch or 11:00 according to the new time? Or is it the other way around?

I've been confused by the need to mess with the clock for over the past 50 years. It seems that during WWII it was to save electricity or some such. And then it had to do with the little kids having to wait for the school bus during the dark hours of the morning and then something such as lengthening the daylight hours so that a bunch of people can play a round of golf after working hours.

Now, frankly, I don't know how farmers have been able to cope with these time changes whatsoever. If they have cows, the cows don't know the difference and when they need to be milked in the morning, they need to be milked no matter what the big hand and the little hand say on the clock.

What makes it even worse is now that we're into Autumn and around here we're facing Winter, going back to Standard Time just reminds us that it's gonna be a long dark Winter! The only light at the end of the tunnel is that around December 21, the daylight hours will start getting longer.

Why oh why do "they" pull the plug on us when we're trying to appreciate our glorious Autumn around here? Can't they just let us adjust to the changing seasons in a natural way? Now I could handle that.

Oh how I hate these time changes!
