Don't forget there was a large group also in Martinsville. It was near
Niagara Falls Blvd. and Old Niagara Falls Blvd. near the Erie Canal. It is on the
Niagara County side. I believe it is now part of North Tonawanda. I went there a
few years back looking for my Voelker/Volker, Messing and Linde/Linden family
from Germany. My Bieber family also German speaking from Waldhambach, Alsace,
France. The Johann and Frederick Volker families moved to an area near
Saunder Settlement Road, Witmer Road and Military Road and Colonial Village in 1881.
Where the Bieber Family had been for some time. My Jacob J. Schweitzer from
Frenkendorf,Basel Canton, Switzerland and his wife Caroline Bieber joined them
in 1850. I learned on that trip that some of those farms were in Town of
Niagara and others, unknown to me, on the other side of the road were in Town of
Lewiston. I had lived in Niagara Falls most of my life and never knew that. I
always thought of Lewiston as just the heights and the village. My
Marcklinger/Merklinger,Dittman family were from the Northend (city folk)
I am really sorry I'm not going to be able to make it to the reunion. I had
hoped to meet all of you. I have been looking forward to it ever since the idea
was first mentioned. I so enjoy our Folks list. I wish you all good fortune
in your research. I want to thank Vee and all the others who helped get this
off the ground. Have a grand time. I hope to see you all next time.
