Thanks for letting me know that you'll be using my Casper's Will story as an
inspiration for others. Frankly, I've been overwhelmed by all of the
messages I've received in response to the story. But the most overwhelming
of all was the one from Bobbi Schirado of our list, the editor of the
Western Michigan Genealogical Society quarterly magazine, who asked my
permission to publish the story in their 40-page genealogical society
publication.
Bobbi said, "As editor, I want to emphasize the importance of "Family
History" and not just collecting a large number of names. I've been looking
for some way to show amateur genealogists how they can put "some meat" on
their research. Casper's Will is a terrific example of how to combine
research of collateral relatives, family friends, a variety of documented
information and local history resources in order to paint a more complete
and vivid picture of an ancestor's life by using deduction and imagination"
I'm still in wonderment over all of it. What it amounts to is that I wrote
a story about Pennsylvania, posted it to a New York list, and a Michigan
listmember took a liking to it and now the story will be published in a
Michigan genealogical society publication. From my personal point of view,
I feel that I just hit BIG TIME in the world of genealogy.
Now, can someone help me pop the cork off this bottle of Champagne?
