Subject: Cosman of OC Gen 5 Part 2

Well here is try three. It seems that the OC list doesn't accept large
messages, so now I'm pairing this down to 4 installments and hoping that they
get there. Last time only #2 made it. I hope someone gets some use from this
submission. It sure represents a large chunk of Orange Co. history!

Obituary 1878 Newburgh Gazette?, Orange Co., Newburgh, NY
One of the oldest and most respected citizens of this place, William Cosman,
died on Wednesday morning at eleven o'clock, from general debility. He was born
in the same house in which he died, on July 11, 1808, and was therefore seventy
years of age at the time of his death. He was quiet and unassuming in his
manners, a good neighbor and friend, highly esteemed by all who knew him. He
leaves eight children to mourn the loss of a kind and indulgent father. the
community is in deep sympathy with the bereaved ones. Mr. Cosman was a farmer,
owning a tract of 200 acres, which was originally owned by his ancestor, John
Cosman, who emigrated from Germany to this country 220 years ago and located in
New Jersey. Afterwards he came to this place, making an opening in the woods
and building a log hut and securing this tract of land containing 200 acres,
which has remained in this family until the present day. The first Grist Mill
in this section was built on this property. The funeral services take place on
Saturday, at the house, at 10 a.m., and at 11 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church,
Marlborough. Interment at Cedar Hill.
