As noted in last years calander, disagreement as to the location of the New
York & Oswego Midland (later O&W) Railroad depot lead to the construction of
a station on Wickham Ave. and another on East Main Street (shown above)
Contrruction was begun in July 1872, and the depot opened for use on
November 18, 1872. Cornelius J. Sloat, one of Middletown's finest
architects, designed the structure. At the time the photo was taken, the
NY&W was controlled by the Erie RR.
