Subject: [Rensselaer] Photographers James H. Lloyd of Cohoes, A. Cobden of Troy and J. M. Herrin of Troy
Date: Sun, 30 Dec 2001 18:29:31 -0500
Hi all,
Have some photos in the family Bible that are unlabeled except for the name
of the photographer on the back. Several of them are from James H. Lloyd's
studio in Cohoes. His address is listed as either 61 Remsen Street or 61.5
Remsen Street. Another few are from J. M. Herrin's Gallery in Troy and A.
Cobden in Troy.
I understand from a previous post that the Lloyd Studio is still in business
in Troy. Does anyone know when Mr. Lloyd was in Cohoes or if the slight
difference in the addresses can help narrow down the date range? Based on
other evidence, I can narrow down the range of dates to about 1825-1857.
The dawn of commercial photography in Rensselaer County probably shifts the
earlier date to sometime in the 1830s or 1840s, which would narrow the range
a bit, but I need to have something a bit more exact to be certain about
identifying the family member in the picture.
Any info on any of these gentleman or their businesses that might help would
be greatly appreciated.
