If anyone who does genealogical research in Troy NY, has been lucky
enough to stop in the Troy Public Library (a must), you have probably
picked up Loretta Nial's book, "Tombstone Inscriptions in Cemeteries in
Troy, Rensselaer County, NY, Indicating a Foreign Place of Origin." It
is basically what it says, all hand typed in 1976 and bound in a hard
cover that one would use to submit an important college study to a
professor. It is a valuable resource, if your ancestor come from
another country and died in Troy, like many of mine have. Needless to
say, I have used it every time I visited Troy.

A month or so ago, I was contacted by Ms. Nial's cousin, Mary Hoar, a
regular contributor to the Rensselaer and Westchester County lists, plus
the NY Irish list. She stated that Ms. Nial wished for more people to
have access to the information provided by her book. Since there are
only a few copies ever typed, she wondered if I would consider putting
it up on my ConnorsGenealogy, Troy webpage. Well, it didn't take me
long to decide, as I was astonished at the offer. Since then, Mary has
been diligently typing the manuscript in Word files and sending them to
me via email attachments. I have gradually formatted them for on line
and put them on line without any fanfare.

Well, today I am officially announcing the whole book is on line,
including author notes, a bibliography and images scanned from the
manuscript. Please check out, "A Few Dates", since it is basically the
history of Troy and Lansingburgh in reference to USA and world history.
I found it extremely interesting and a fun read.

You can find it at the URL under my name, go to New York State, then
Troy, then Cemeteries where you will find a link to the book. For your
convenience I have also provided links on the Rensselaer County website at:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyrenss2/ (again under Troy, Cemeteries)
