joan, i know i said at the sihs page
http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyrichmo/sihs.html that their holdings are generally
colonial but that is far from a hard and fast rule. take a look at the
holdings listed on the page and you'll see what i mean.

what they told me was that they have directories back to the 1883/4 one. if
there were any earlier i'm not aware of it. i don't believe there were.
