Hackensack
Brian,
There are published DRC records for the church in Hackensack. The Allisons,
having come from the English settlement at Hempstead, LI, were probably members
of the English Church (Presbyterian) in New Hempstead. Unfortunately, the first
record book of that church has disappeared, either due to fire, or being kept by
a minister who moved on.
Land records for Haverstraw and New Hempstead may be in Goshen (Orange Co); or
at the County Clerk's Office, in New City, Rockland Co, after the split from
Orange Co in 1798 (?).
As far as Elizabeth Benson's mother, all I have is Riker's statement that there
were no children of Matthew Benson's m1. However, I also have an approximate
date range which suggests that she was b. of the first marriage. I have seen no
proof, either way.
