Hi,
In a private email responding to my thoughts
on Schoharie research, Jan wrote:

Well, I thought this was a great idea from 2
perspectives. First, the info in this DAR application
probably _is_ of value to many of you on the NYSCHOHA-L
list. Second, it may serve to trigger some interesting
discussions here on the list and, who knows, some of
us will probably find out that we're cousins.
In line with the latter of the two thoughts in the
paragraph above, let's see if there's a game of "Six
Degrees of Yost Zeh" here. (or any one of the other
soldiers/partriots). Yost Zeh is the person that
that the Stone Fort volunteer knew I was looking for.
Some of you may not have heard of the game called
Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon. It was started as a parlor
game by three guys who later packaged it as a board game.
The object is to draw a movie actor/actress' name and then
name movies that connect an actor in a movie with an actor
in another movie to an actor ... to actor Kevin Bacon in 6
movies or less. It has been claimed that there is no actor
you can name that can't be connected in this way.
If you don't follow my description of the game just follow
my examples below. Let's see if the 6 degree rule is at
work here. I won't be surprised if we come close! If you
can make a connection to anyone in this DAR app, post it
to the list. It'll be fun to see what happens!

Here are my Six Degrees of Yost Zeh connections:

1. Richard Martin
2. Maynard Martin
3. Elizabeth Hilts Maynard m. October 12, 1916 Leland G. Martin
4. Elisabeth Hilts m. Arthur C. Maynard
5. Gideon David Hilts m. 1831 Elisabeth Zeh
6. Sophia Zeh m. February 13, 1797 George Hilts
7. Yost Zeh m. 1774 Christina Hains (a double score for me here!)

9. Hendrick Schneider/Snyder m. 1730 Marget Eckert

OK, so it took more than 6 degrees on some. My father
shudda started this game instead of me!
With the cousin relationships, I could have shown
all 4 of these in 2 different ways but I didn't want
to make the example any more complicated than it already
was. I hope you find this some fun!

And, yes, for those of you paying close attention,
only 4 of these Rev. War soldiers/patriots were my
great-grandfathers. When I wrote my original note, I
did it from memory and had thought there were 5.

This application came from D.A.R. Lineage Book 144,
pages 293 and 294. Notice that it notes 5 other
application numbers. Just to save us all time, no, I
don't have copies of those other apps.
