Looking for any info on the Gathany (Gahtney, Gaffney) family. Peter and Emma (Post) Gathany lived in Middleburg,
Schoharie Co., NY Around 1815 to 1860's. Occupation farmer. Had two children, John S. born Oct. 12, 1836 and Ellen. Ellen married Nathan Wells and resided in Albany, NY, then Detroit, MI.
John moved around 1855 to Susquehanna Co., PA to live
with his Uncle Jacob Post.

Thanks,
Mark

He was born Oct. 12, 1836 in Middleburg, Schoharie Co. NY, the son of Peter and Emma {Post} Gathany. The subjects paternal Grandfather was Pedro Gathany, born in Rome, Italy & located in Maine until the War of 1812.(The name & country don't match, Pedro is a Spanish name. Our Grandfather says this statement is untrue) Pedro, Peter and John entered the U. S. Service. Pedro and John were killed in the battle at Queens Heights. Peter, who was serving as a musician, was taken prisoner and was at Quebec for 3 years until the end of the war. He went to Schoharie Co., NY and married Emma Post. He was a farmer and left two children, John and Ellen. Ellen married Nathan Wells and resided in Albany, NY, then Detroit, Mich. She had two girls.
John lived with his Uncle Jacob Post about 6 months.
